She turns from the chopping board, laying the knife down, and winks at him playfully.
"Unclench. I'm teasing you."
She takes the items in question from his hands, letting their fingers brush together just ever so slightly enough to be absolutely deliberate, and starts melting the butter for the roux. She works with the kind of effortless grace that only comes with practice. Twelve years of raising two boys almost solely on home cooked meals will do that.
"You hang around me enough, you learn I am never serious, except about two things: Alcohol and sex."
She says that last bit in a stage whisper, knowing full well her boys might overhear.
